You are cordially invited to Hammersmith in West London, this Summer- to participate in, and enjoy the experience of the Hammersmith Management College London Summer English and Activity Course.
Broadly speaking the nature of the programmes offered by our English language department is divided into two to provide as flexible a course as possible, to all types of applicants by meeting their specific requirements. Applicants will generally be assessed by an informal test at the entry level. The results of the assessment test will give the English Department the information to be able to place the new student in the class most appropriate to their current ability.
Entry Requirements
Applicants will generally be assessed by means of an initial assessment at the entry level. The assessment test will be sat by the applicant under informal conditions and later on marked by the English language Tutor Mike Mellor. Based on Head Tutor's own assessment the student will then be placed in the appropriate group/level.
Course Programme
Broadly speaking the nature of programmes offered by the English language department is essentially two folds, thus providing flexibility to all types of applicants by meeting their specific requirements.
1)General/Spoken English
The English department at the College has designed courses for students who simply wish to improve their spoken and written skills in English, and do not, necessarily, intend to enter any public examinations and gain any certificates. These courses are simply designed to cover skills in reading, writing, listening, grammar and vocabulary development.
The course duration can range from three weeks to eleven months, depending upon the level of proficiency and fluency desired by the student. General English language courses include three levels; Beginners, Certificate and Advanced. Normally a minimum period of up to 10 to11 months may be required to complete all levels. Courses can be taken on a full time or part time basis. A full time course will include at-least 5 sessions (15-20 hours) of teaching per week, between 9.0- 5.0. Part time courses will generally include 3 to 6 hours of supervised study per week.
The College also offers short intensive courses between two to four weeks on a part time basis to students in areas of General English. These are mainly aimed at the European Nationals. Our English Department will provide every opportunity to the above students to enter for the following public examinations, if the candidate wishes to do so;
